The Universal Curmudgeon

WHY RESURRECT ?

When I was burning out the last time in the US, I decided to become a bit more pointed in my critique of what I saw as unsustainable policy and practice. It manifested as a recurring diatribe I called, “The Universal Curmudgeon.” I then wrote it under the pen name, Don Kyhote (a play on Cervantes’s Don Quixote, who you may remember busied himself futilely fighting windmills). These rants elicited a variety of reactions from the Thomas Paine award for alternative journalism to a number of death threats — this was the time the country was beginning to retrench and any real opposition and challenge to the governments policy was branded as unpatriotic. No need to continue here, we can all see how it went from there. When I came to China I put away the curmudgeon’s razor – It wasn’t my place, as a guest, to critique my host country. I unearth these old rantings now because of my concern that the clearly demonstrated mistakes of the past are being repeated again. The “mind pollution” is still spreading.

The Universal Curmudgeon No. 1.4
by David B. Sutton

It’s been almost 20 years since I’ve seen Amory Lovins interact with a Stanford audience and I was struck by the contrasts, both in reception and delivery. Amory was as brilliant as ever. I have been in awe of him for almost 30 years. He truly is an “out-of-box” genius, of the Leonardo…

THE UNIVERSAL CURMUDGEON — A Voice of Outrage
by David B. Sutton, Ph.D.

Have we had enough yet ? What will it take for us all to see that our society is in the grip of the most powerful secular cult in the history of human kind, the cult of “free-market fundamentalism.” Free-market fundamentalism is the unquestioning belief in the…

Introducing The Universal Curmudgeon

I’M MAD AS HELL, AND I’M NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE !!!

I want to introduce myself and an idea that you might find interesting. First, I have been an environmental activist and educator for the past 30 years . While I have always believed that I have fought “the good fight,” I must admit that I have reached the point where I am at my wits end. I can not take the rampant self-serving denial…
